Nursery Stage 1

My wonderful husband painted the nursery for the past 2 days, and today, he put together the crib and "dresser" (i.e. Ikea Expedit bookcase). There's still much to do - hang artwork, get a new light fixture to replace the circa 1995 brass one, pick curtain rods and hang curtains, pick a glider, and on and on - but it's taking shape. That's exciting. I'm pleased with our Wal-Mart online Baby Mod crib. For $200, it was a good deal, it's made of wood, and it feels nice and sturdy.

Who knew that babies need so much stuff??

That is adorable and I love your color scheme!!! After pulling my hair out over wall colors because I DID NOT WANT blue walls, I ended up painting our nursery the most baby blue color that exists. Alas.

I'm sure you're inundated with "you need this!" type of suggestions, so I'll stick with just one. I am not normally given to hyping things, but....

After our third kid, I totally, unreservedly, with no caveats, recommend the Halo Innovations Sleepsack for swaddling your kid for sleeping at night. We use(d) it *only* at night (not for daytime naps), and in no time at all our son learned that when the sleepsack went on it was time for serious sleep. He'd become calm and quiet instantly - it was a little freaky, because with the first two I was more accustomed to having to rock them to sleep, hold them, whatever. Maybe we just didn't do a good enough job swaddling with blankets with them.

Anyway, your hospital might give you one (that's where we found out about them), but you can buy them online. Downside: they're pricey ($20). Upside: You really only need one.

love the quiet, cool gray on the walls with the clean white (off white?)woodwork.

Well, I love it and you know that because we have very similar tastes! We are about as far as you-the walls are painted, my husband built the chair rail, and we currently have a glider and the crib set up. That's it. My husband is attempting to replicate that exact bookcase with his own novice carpentry skills. Should be interesting.

I am soooo not crafty either and am impressed by your wall art! I was thinking of doing something similar, but stapling fabric to wood frames to make canvases. Sounds like a lot of work though, lol.
