So, in about 9 months, our whole life is going to change. I am pregnant!!! I'll have more information after my trip to the OB tomorrow. Actually, I am quite terrified and simultaneously really excited. Anyone with words of advice about parenthood, pregnancy, or being an ER veterinarian mother (or just a veterinarian mother) - feel free to drop by. I feel like I know nothing!

Wonderful news. Congratulations!

My only kids come with fur and four feet so I have no advice to offer. That being said I recommend this blog http://nessahappens.blogspot.com/ which is following the laugh out loud stories of a young women and her pregnancy. Her first one ended tragically in a miscarriage but her second seems to be going much better. Bonus - she's the happy owner of two newfies, multiple cats and I believe some sheep and bees as well.

Congratulations! How exciting for you and your family!

Coming from a busy technician, I'll let you know that it was an enormous adjustment, not only for us, but especially for our dog. I can't really describe how much children change your life, but expect all your routines to be out of whack for at least the first few months while your family adjusts.

In terms of the pets, we found it really helpful to hire a dogwalker a few times a week for the first few months. I also work with a vet who would occasionally take our corgi on long off leash hikes every week during the winter.

Congratulations!
Yes your life will change. Your emotions because of hormones will be over flowing at times and probably already are.
Enjoy your pregnancy, take care of yourself and you will be better prepared for your baby..

Congratulations!!! This is wonderful news.

You are about to embark on an amazing adventure that will help you rethink all you thought was important in life. It will be frustrating, exhausting, and amazingly rewarding. Forget taking the advise of others. You will find that in the end...no one really knows best...and certainly no better than you when it comes to your own child. Trust your own instincts. You are the mommy.

Best wishes for a healthy pregnancy!

Woohoo! The best advice I ever got was "never wake a sleeping baby, not even to go to college." Seriously... I was shocked at the level of sleep deprivation. And it starts during pregnancy, when you get so incredibly sleepy in the middle of the day. Don't let it get the better of you.

And enjoy! You'll do great.

I think Dr. Dolen pretty much summed it up!

That is very exciting news! As the mother of a 2.5 year old boy (and full-time vet), I agree there are major changes ahead, but it is all so incredibly and amazingly rewarding.

Congratulations!! I have no advice to offer, but I certainly will be keeping my eye on you for advice for my future-self! I've always admired successful female vets who have children and a great career. Let me know when you unlock the secrets :)

How wonderful! Congratulations! I am so excited for you.

Advice? Babies don't break. Do what works. If Baby wants held and it soothes baby...hold Baby. If baby wants fed but the schedule says wait 20 minutes...feed baby.

do what works.

take LOTS of pictures.....they change so quickly.

I miss my kids (22,24,26) being babies. *sigh* enjoy....it will go fast!

Thanks everyone. I go through moments of shock, panic, fear, elation, and just about everything in between. It's all going to be ok, right?
